"Thor's Hammer" Original Utah Painting
18x18" Original Painting on Canvas

As we drove through southern Utah I knew I wanted to paint some red/orange rocks, because they are all over and so unique. This painting is of Bryce Canyon. The natives called the rock formations "Hoodoos," as seen in this painting they look like people standing. They have a legend that the rock formations were once people that got tricked by a sly coyote and turned into rock.
This area was once the bottom of a lake bed. There are many different rock layers that erode at different rates, so the layers create really cool rock formations. The rock formation that is the focal point is called Thor's Hammer.
